A career central banker with more than 10 years of experience in legal and regulatory framework development. Mr. Shahid is a professional with strong combination of education and experience in development finance, financial inclusion, economic development, economic analysis, policy assessment, regulatory policy, payment systems, home remittances, financial intelligence,. At the time Mr. Shahid started his career with State Bank of Pakistan in 2005, the payments landscape was rapidly changing globally and Pakistan was at the beginning phase of developing its payment systems and introducing Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system. Mr. Shahid and the other team members worked on government’s public policy objectives for the broad payments ecosystem in Pakistan. On the legal side, in collaboration with the Legal Department he drafted Payment Systems and Electronic Funds Transfer Act 2007, to provided legal coverage to all electronic payments. He has also developed policy guidelines for Alternate Delivery Channels like ATM, POS and payment cards. Mr. Shahid has also worked with Government of Pakistan initiative; Pakistan Remittance Initiative (PRI), an initiative to increase worker remittances through legal channels; as chief architect payment systems. He also worked for broadening the access of financial services to the unbanked segment of the society. He also spearheaded the team of financial services specialists for smooth disbursement of payment cards to the poor people under the Government of Pakistan Program for poverty alleviation; Benazir Income Support Program (BISP). Mr. Shahid Zamir is a World Bank Scholar and holds Masters Degree in Economic Policy and Public Policy from Columbia University, New York. He also holds MBA degree from the oldest business school outside USA; Institute of Business Administration, Karachi. In his free time Mr. Shahid loves to watch movies and play FIFA. As a part of program requirement, for Master from Columbia University, New York, Mr. Shahid also worked with United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) as a consultant towards positioning of worker remittances in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Currently, Mr. Shahid is working as Joint Director in Payment Systems Department of State Bank of Pakistan.
