Better corporate governance is a cornerstone to efficiency and stability of any institution, especially financial service providers. The remuneration practices of senior management and Board members is one of the very important aspects of overall corporate governance framework, as it influences the performance of the institutions, which resultantly impact the returns to ordinary shareholders, depositors and , more importantly , the stability of financial system as a whole.

In Pakistan, the issues related to remuneration of directors and executives had previously been addressed in various regulatory instructions. However, in response to a need for review and alignment of the overall remuneration related framework with international standards and emerging best practices, SBP issued Guidelines on Remuneration Practices (the Guidelines) to require banks and DFIs to develop improved performance management frameworks and provide necessary disclosures on their compensation practices.

The objective of this workshop is to help the participants gain an understanding of the need for such regulations, key requirements emerging from the Guidelines and practical insights into effective implementation, to ensure full compliance in a timely manner.
